Top 10 Tips

Good morning, all. Sorry this isn’t the Top 10 Tips to Win Jamie Fraser’s Heart. Hmm … that does give me an idea. I’ll have to come back to that. For now … One of my readers indicated she would like to tackle colorizing her own photos and asked me how to get started. I began a reply which grew longer and longer. Before I knew it, I figured I had a new blog post. Perhaps there are a few others out there who would like to do the same. So …

Where’s Baby Candida?

So, today is all me, but then … when isn’t it? Well, usually it’s all about Jamie, but today it really is all about me. My mom recently moved into a new place. Me, my brothers and my sister went the extra mile (and then some) to unpack all her boxes and set up the house for her. After a week of some late nights, we made it move-in ready. I took lead on the organizing and decorating. My sibs were happy and very helpful letting me make the house all purdy and orderly for our mom.

We Are All Claire

Watching the number of #MeToo hashtags pop up on social media reminds me of some of the early Outlander criticism regarding the number of times Claire finds herself the victim of harassment, abuse or attempted rape. To that I must say (again) … puleaze. The only difference between the treatment of women in the 18th century and the treatment of women in the 21st century is nothing. Throughout history women have been the objects of unwanted attention and worse. The singular difference is the laws implemented to protect the vulnerable, which only works if the victim is brave enough to…

Are You A Flower Girl Or Are You A Lady?

I’ve been thinking lately about equality. It seems a fairly simple concept. Everyone treat everyone the same. Then there is the Golden Rule – treat others as you would like to be treated – with its variation – do not treat others as you would not like to be treated. Basically, equality is about reciprocity – a mutual exchange of respect. Question: Why is it so difficult for everyone to respect each other? Because you are wrong! might be the answer for some. In order to receive respect and, thus, equality, we all have to agree? Well, that ain’t gonna happen…

Cartwheels & Eclipses

So, how did you celebrate the most amazing cosmic event in 2017 – at least in our infinitesimal part of the solar system? If you’re outside the United States, it probably wasn’t very exciting. If you were outside the zone of totality, it may have been almost as ‘unexciting.’ I reside in the 75% eclipse zone, but I thought it was still pretty cool.

Where there are trees, there is hope

Here’s a story to help relieve your fear and/or anger – if you should have any. The short documentary below is about Jadav Payeng, a local of Majuli Island. Majuli Island is part of India and lies in the Brahmaputra River. According to wikipedia, the island’s size started out at 483 sq. miles but has been eroding since the 20th century – most likely since before then but I have no idea what the impact of climate change has on that region of the planet and if you want to argue about the existence of climate change, please go someplace else….

Charles Dickens says …

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…” Charles Dickens’ opening to A Tale of Two Cities is one of my all-time favorites. Today, it’s more relatable and relevant than ever. If you’re tired of politics, feel free to stop reading now. I won’t be offended.

Winter is Here … Then the Fall

My three favorite shows (of all time) begin their 7th, 3rd and 8th seasons this year. As I wait for the Season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones to begin, I can’t help but compare it to Outlander (premiering its 3rd season on September 10th) and The Walking Dead (most likely premiering sometime in October on its 8th season). The first fact which stands out is that all three shows are adaptations. All three shows are fantasy-based yet completely different. While Game of Thrones bounces between multiple storylines, Outlander is centered on the story between Jamie and Claire but will start…

Pardon my French, but …. Oh la vache!

Politics. Politics. Politics. Everyone in the United States hasn’t been as passionate about politics since probably around 1776 (I’m sad and sorry to say). It’s both a good and a bad thing. But I don’t want to talk about the geopolitical ramifications of the G7 Summit taking place in Italy. I want to talk about something much more important … The budding new bromance between Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (move over Justin Timberlake for the new JT) and the new President of France Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron.

Now or Later?

I woke up this morning and started my day – took Biscuit for a walk, cleaned the cat box, prepared Biscuit’s breakfast then my own. Animals first. Always first. My cat Susie eats at odd times throughout the day, but Biscuit won’t eat unless I’m in the room. If I put his bowl down and go to another room to do something, I turn around, and ‘boom!’ – he’s right there behind me. Back we go to the room where his bowl is. I wait for him to begin eating. He does. The treat in his bowl is usually enough to…
