Day 14 of Outlander Starz’s offerings is the biggest cast announcement since Sam Heughan was announced to play the part of James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe was selected to play the part of Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp Randall Fraser. Introducing RICHARD RANKIN as Roger Wakefield MacKenzie . . .
Richard was a fan favorite during the long-time search for Roger. Devotees of The Syndicate, and especially The Crimson Field, have been rooting for the young Scottish actor, singer and avid video-gamer from Glasgow to join the Outlander cast. The dream came true today.
Here’s a taste of the Glaswegian’s voice with this 60 second BAFTA video:
And for those of you who missed the dozens of other posts today, here’s a little taste of his singing voice (thanks to @RRankinFans for posting to soundcloud):
Roger, affectionately known as Roger Mac, is a novel-series favorite and is sure to become a television-series favorite. His part in Season 2 may be limited but should be expanded upon in the inevitable Season 3.
For those few who’ve not read beyond the first Outlander novel, you met wee Roger in Season 1 during Episode 108: BOTH SIDES NOW. Roger became a World War II orphan after losing both his parents. His father’s spitfire went down over the English Channel and his mother was killed in a bombing raid in London. Given the story is taking place in the 18th Century, perhaps this raises several questions as to how we are meeting adult-sized Roger. Well . . . you’ll have to read Diana Gabaldon‘s Dragonfly in Amber or wait for Season 2 to find out.
If you want to know who Bree is and why she’s in the shower . . . and more importantly . . . what happens when she comes out of the shower, you’ll have to read Voyager (my favorite in the series of novels) or wait until Season 3 . . .
In the meantime with this small tribute, please welcome Richard Rankin – an all-around nice guy who is the perfect addition to a perfect cast.
Finally, as an added bonus on December 15th only . . .
If you don’t own the Outlander novels or want/need another set to keep for yourself, share or whatever, here’s your chance to win an 11-book Diana Gabaldon bundle, courtesy of Random House’s 12-Days of Giving.
