A scene from the upcoming series, Outlander – based on the novel by Diana Gabaldon, was available for a short time. It appeared to be the final cut version of Claire’s arrival and chase through the woods. It included Bear McCreary‘s beautiful soundtrack and Caitriona Balfe‘s voiceover.
Here’s the latest version released by Outlander Starz. The scene does not include Claire running through the woods but does extend her meeting Black Jack Randall for the first time.
Basic description: Claire makes her way through the woods and spots 18th Century Redcoats. She thinks she’s on a movie set.
Then she hears live ammunition rounds being fired by the Highlanders and realizes something is very wrong. When she is fired upon by an English soldier, she runs for her life . . .
. . . And runs straight into Jonathan Wolverton Randall. “At your service,” he says.
In case you missed the fantastic scene as presented, I have here several frames for your enjoyment. But first, a joke that pretty much sums up the entire story.

The scene starts out with our lovely Claire (Caitriona Balfe) walking through the peaceful Scottish forest when she hears shouting.

She looks up to see a strange sight – men dressed in old English uniforms, walking along the ridge above her.

What the devil . . . ?

Still more oddity when she sees a group of Scots sneaking up behind the English. One stops to fire his weapon at their pursuers. She knows right away something is very wrong as they are using live ammunition.

Next, Claire is fired upon and makes a run for it. It’s very exciting, thrilling and wonderful, but let’s skip ahead to the big moment when Claire first spots Captain Randall, washing blood from his forehead in a nearby stream.

Both their reactions are perfect – Claire’s glass face vs Black Jack’s coldness.

It takes her a moment, then Classic Claire says, “Frank? What the devil are you doing?” What a minute, that’s not Frank . . .

The strange Red Coat gives her his fancy title, “My name is Captain Jonathan Wolverton Randall, but my friends call me Black Jack because of the color of my soul.” Or something like that. You have to read between the lines.

Enough small talk. Jack needs to draw blood and the chase is on.

The honeymoon is over, and we’re back to divorce. The End.
As before, stills have been added to the gallery on the right, labeled as NEW SCENE. Enjoy!
The video is no longer there. It’s been removed. 😦
Hm. Just checked it. Seems to be working fine. Are you talking about the one on the Black Jack Tumblr page – the only one I posted here?
Yes, that’s where I found it. I don’t know what I clicked on first that said it couldn’t be found. Thanks for posting it. Surely Back to Black isn’t going to be on the final cut, is it? It doesn’t fit at all.
No. The originally posted vid – as I mention in my blog – had the final soundtrack with music. I believe that is what Starz most objected to having released. So, “Black Jack” re-edited it with The Stones music over the cut, except for the single line – no music there. Glad you were able to resolve things.
Nevermind….I found it. 🙂
OK, I get it now. Starz is certainly being protective. Thanks for the clarification.
